Want to hear a bad joke? There’s going to be another Matrix film.
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct the fourth film and will return Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss to the roles that made them famous. But while Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich is excited, not everyone is feeling the same way.
“This is a joke, right?”, tweets user NeoMarryMe. “There’s no way they’re really doing this. Are you f**king kidding me? No. This is impossible. Keanu wouldn’t do this to us. Warner Brothers don’t you even think about using him like this just to make more money!”
Others have shared similar feelings with reports coming out that groups of fans on the street are breaking down crying upon hearing the news.
“They can’t do this to us!”, says one fan. “Disney are the ones who abuse their beloved franchises – not Warner Brothers. Not us! Not like this. The original Matrix is sacred. I mean, didn’t they learn anything from the sequels?”
On a potentially positive light, Laurence Fishburne has declined to confirm whether he will be reprising the role of Morpheus and fans are hoping the decision is out of respect for the original.
“Thank you, Morpheus, you taught us everything. Be strong.”
While many are shocked and angry at the news, it’s doubtful whether this will hurt Keanu Reeves’s public perception.
“I’ll hate Warner Brothers. I’ll hate the Wachowskis. But no matter what, I’ll always love Keanu Reeves.”
The Matrix 4 is set to begin production in 2020.
