Australian football fans are rejoicing. Popular AFL commentator Brian Taylor is set to host his very own talk show for the streaming service Stan.
After gaining a cult following for his post-game segment “Roaming Brian”, Stan has decided to expand the popular locker room bit into a one-hour talk show. While Taylor was originally contracted to stay with competitor Channel Seven for three more years, Stan has reportedly bought out the commentator with a lucrative $50 million contract.
“At Stan, we can’t get enough of Roaming Brian and we know Australia wants to see more of that,” says Stan’s CEO Stan Stanley. “All of us love watching people embarrass themselves by making awkward conversations with others and we know that there’s no one better in the business that can do that other than Brian.”
James Brayshaw, the former host of Channel Nine’s The Footy Show, is also set to join the new show with Taylor and many fans are excited to see the pair work together more after enjoying their unique brand of commentary.
“Finally, some good f**king commentators who can actually f**king banter on a good f**king footy show,” tweets user fyfeislife42. “I didn’t think anyone could do worse than Hutchy last year but boy was I wrong when f**king Lehmo came on [referring to the Channel Nine’s axed Footy Show]”.
When asked for a comment on the news, Taylor in jest said only two words to sum up his excitement: “Wow-wee!”.
Stan’s footy talk show is set to run at the start of the 2020 AFL season.
